How to use it
- Choose JPG or PNG, and the JPG quality.
- Choose or drop one or more HEIC photos. You can select many at once.
- Wait a moment while each photo is converted. Previews appear as they finish.
- Download single photos, or press Download all.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but many Windows PCs, websites and upload forms still expect JPG. This converter changes HEIC photos to JPG in a few seconds, without installing an app.
- Choose JPG (or PNG) and a quality. High suits almost everything.
- Click Choose photos and select one or more HEIC files. On a phone, pick them from your photo library.
- Check the previews, then download each JPG or press Download all.
Each file keeps its name, so IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.jpg, at the same width and height as the original.
HEIC vs JPG
| HEIC | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | About half of a JPG | Larger |
| Opens on | iPhone, iPad, Mac; Windows with extensions | Every device, browser and app |
| Upload forms and websites | Often rejected | Accepted almost everywhere |
| Best for | Storing photos on Apple devices | Sharing, printing, forms, email |
Free, unlimited and private
Many converters limit how many photos you can convert, ask you to sign up, or upload your photos to a server. Here there is no limit and no account, and the photos are converted on your own device. The converted JPG also leaves out the GPS location stored in the original, which is a sensible step before posting a photo online.
Next steps
- A form needs a small file: shrink the JPG to an exact size with the Image Resizer in KB.
- You need one document: combine the JPGs into a PDF with JPG to PDF.
- You need a cut-out: remove the background with the Background Remover.
Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It is Apple's name for HEIF images (High Efficiency Image File Format) compressed with HEVC, which keeps the same quality as a JPG at roughly half the file size. Many Windows PCs, websites and upload forms cannot open it, which is why people convert it to JPG.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. In Safari the browser decodes HEIC itself; in other browsers a free decoder (libheif) is downloaded once from jsDelivr. Your photos are never sent anywhere.
Can I convert many HEIC files to JPG at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many photos as you like and they are converted one after another. Press Download all to save every JPG.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
At High quality (92%) the difference is not visible. Choose Maximum for the highest-quality JPG, or PNG for a lossless copy, which gives a much larger file.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac?
Use the tool above, or open the photo in Preview, choose File > Export and set the format to JPEG. On macOS Monterey or later you can also select photos in Finder, right-click and choose Quick Actions > Convert Image.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
Open this page in Chrome or Edge and convert the photos above. Windows Photos can only open HEIC files after you install the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, and the HEVC extension may cost a small fee.
How do I stop my iPhone saving photos as HEIC?
Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG, but they take up more space. To keep HEIC on the phone and get JPGs when you copy photos to a computer, set Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic (under Settings > Apps > Photos on iOS 18 and later).
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone or Android?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome on your phone, tap Choose photos and pick them from your library. The converted JPGs download to your Files or Downloads folder.
How do I open a HEIC file?
On a Mac or iPhone, HEIC opens in Photos or Preview. On Windows or older software that cannot open it, convert it to JPG above and open the JPG instead.
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Choose PNG in the format box before you choose your photos. PNG is lossless and works where transparency or exact pixels matter, but the file is several times larger than a JPG.
Does the JPG keep the location and date?
No. The converted image does not copy the photo's metadata, so the GPS location and camera details are removed. That is useful before you share a photo, but keep the original if you need the date it was taken.
What about Live Photos?
A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a short video. The converter saves the still photo as a JPG; the moving part is not included.
